Raksha Bandhan (2010)
Other than the traditional celebration of the festival at every shakha, this year's Raksha Bandhan Utsav, held on 24th Aug 2010, were celebrated uniquely by 3 of our Greater Toronto Area shakhas.Milton shakha at west end visited Milton Police station, Vivekanand shakha in Etobicoke visited 23 division Etobicoke Police station abd Keshav & Madhav shakha in scarborough visited 43 division scarborough police station. On the day of Raksha Bandhan, swayamsevaks/sevikas from these shakhas went to their local police stations, met with superitendent, inspectors, officers, explained about Raksha Bandhan utsav, its theme and importance in Hindu Culture. The fire-fighters are the protectors of society in a way, and they deserve the support of the Hindu community. By tying the symbolic rakhi, we pray for safety and protection of all of you.
A Successful "Guru Vandana"
Guru Vandana, A Respectful Salute to Teachers
The word Guru has many connotations; a spiritual guide, sports teacher, a person elevated in spirit and strength or one with a calm mind and clear thought. All of us seek inspiration, encouragement and guidance from a Guru. It therefore is important and necessary that due respect be offered to such a person. Who can aptly fit this description than a school teacher?
With this in mind, Keshav Shakha in Toronto, Canada, on 10th June 2010, Thursday, presented this unique concept by organizing “Guru Vandana”, literally meaning, Teachers’ Appreciation Day, at Woburn Jr. Public School here at Toronto .
